There are many ways of improving the lives of people affected by breast cancer. A person’s physical and mental condition can be improved in several ways. Staying in good shape and keeping spirits up can help patients to cope better with treatments. This conference highlights the reliable methods hidden behind the myths surrounding this subject.

Information stand – Breast cancer and hyperbaric medicine

Main hall of the HUG

Discover the breast and how cancer develops in it, through the giant model installed at the HUG. Learn more about the use of hyperbaric medicine in cancer treatment by visiting this model.

Teams from the Breast Center, the Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine Unit, the Geneva Cancer League and the Cancer Screening Foundation will accompany you on your tour and answer any questions.

Public conference – Caregivers : getting the balance right.

This event lifts the veil on the many facets of caregiving, with advice, tips and testimonials from experts, public figures and others.
Welcome as from 5:30 pm, followed by an apéritif The round table will be led by Dr Alexandre Bodmer, oncologist at Hôpital de La Tour.

Speakers

  • Thierry Apothéloz, State Councillor at the Department of Social Cohesion, will present the activities and projects of the Cantonal Service for Seniors and Caregiving.
  • The comedian Michel Leeb, and his wife Béatrice, will talk about their experience as parents alongside their daughter, Fanny, a singer, who was affected by cancer.
  • Dr Guillaume Favre, psychiatrist and psychotherapist will give his view on the feelings of caregivers.
  • The cantonal delegate for caregivers, Véronique Petoud, will outline the details of the dedicated caregiving department in Geneva.
  • Léonore de Saint-Pierre will talk about how she accompanied her mother in spite of being geographically far away from her.
  • Arianne Torné, a psychologist and sexologist from the Otium Centers will discuss the often taboo subject of intimacy during an illness.

A two-hour introduction to rowing for patients, prepared and accompanied by the hospital’s physiotherapists, with the association Ramer en rose, which runs programs dedicated to breast cancer patients.

Patients, former patients or members of the public (who either have or had breast cancer) can sign up and take part in several sporting activities (from a total of seven activities, including a climbing wall).

Stand to promote breast cancer awareness for both staff and patients. Held by Martine Tyrode-Moreau, breast cancer referral nurse at Hôpital de La Tour and Cecile Baux-Coutau Fondation genevoise pour le dépistage du cancer.
